The Spell Brigade

For The Spell Brigade, we produced a fully hand-drawn 2D animated trailer designed to capture the game’s chaotic energy and playful tone from the very first frame. The piece follows a group of misfit wizards on a mission gone wrong, blending fast-paced action with physical comedy and expressive character animation.

To faithfully translate the game into a cinematic format, the team immersed themselves in the Early Access build, studying character movement, combat dynamics, and overall gameplay feel. This hands-on approach helped shape a trailer that reflects both the mechanics and the personality of the game.

Visually, the project embraces a traditional frame-by-frame animation style, with subtle influences from classic physical comedy (particularly the work of Charlie Chaplin) combined with nods to JRPG aesthetics. This mix brings a unique rhythm and charm to the character performances.

The production followed a full 2D animation pipeline, including storyboarding, animatic development, character adaptation from 3D to 2D, frame-by-frame animation, background art, compositing, and final effects. The high number of characters and creatures per shot made this a particularly complex project, with some scenes requiring weeks of work for just a few seconds of animation.

The result is a visually rich and character-driven game trailer that combines strong storytelling, handcrafted animation, and creative direction to deliver an engaging and memorable piece.
